How frequently do you think of the words grants management system? If you’re anything like most people , this likely doesn’t come up a lot. When I was in college in graduate school, we were strongly encouraged to conduct our own field research in order to assist us in coming up with a thesis project for the end of our graduate tenure. As a part of this endeavor, grant writing and possessing knowledge about grant writing became mandatory. It is one thing to ask a friend to borrow a few dollars. However, it is quite another thing to write to a third party or somebody you’ve never met before and ask him or her for funds to help you conduct independent research. Thankfully, there are usually a wide variety of grants to choose from when you are in the midst of planning out research projects. The problem inherently lies, however, in the number of people who are applying for that particular grant at any one given time. For instance, you could have thirty or forty people applying for the same grant funds . In the end, though, only two or three people may receive a portion of the funding that they requested while even less may actually receive the full amount of grant funds that are needed.
Much of grant funding has to do with your approach to asking for the funding. This is why grant writing has become so important. You have to be able to successfully convey to a complete stranger why you need funds, what the funds will be used for and a clear description of your research project. Without this information, it becomes incredibly difficult for a member of a third party to determine whether or not you are deserving of the funds that you need. Think of it this way: would you loan a large chunk of money to a complete stranger without first knowing what that money was going to be used for? This is also why grant management software is important. Grant accounting software and grant tracking software assist college administrators in keeping track of various grants that are active as well as grants that are pending, all of which is important to the university system as well as your research.
